چکیده

In-situ synchrotron X-ray microtomography has been employed to investigate the three-dimensional (3D) closure behavior of short fatigue crack in Ti-6Al-4V alloy. At a spatial resolution level 1 µm, tomography datasets were taken at two fronts observe time evolution (sometimes called 4D imaging). Owing high level, complex 3D morphology consisting deflections, facet paths and branching/overlap caused by variation microstructural features readily observed together with occurrence closure. This study separated contributions near-tip behind-tip their growth. It was deduced that increase length predominantly affects overall regime. Crack front found be attributable existence different path morphologies which showed varied degree fracture surface roughness due Mode II III displacements. The relationship between closure, tip opening displacement range (?CTOD) growth rate are also discussed.

Fatigue of Ti-6Al-4V

Metallic biomaterials have essentially three fields of use; these are the artificial hip joints, screw, plates and nails for internal fixation of fractures, and dental implants. Any of these devices must support high mechanical load and resistance of material against breakage is essential. High mechanical properties are needed for structural efficiency of surgical and dental implants. But their...

Mixed-Mode, High-Cycle Fatigue-Crack Growth Thresholds in Ti-6Al-4V: A Comparison of Large and Small Crack Behavior

There are few experimental results to date describing the crack-propagation threshold behavior of short fatigue cracks under multiaxial loading conditions. To address this need, in the present study, the variation in mixed-mode, high-cycle fatigue-crack growth thresholds with crack size and shape are reported for a Ti-6Al-4V turbine blade alloy, heat treated to two widely different microstructu...

Mixed-mode, high-cycle fatigue-crack growth thresholds in Ti– 6Al–4V: Role of small cracks

There have been few studies to date describing fatigue-crack propagation thresholds under mixed-mode loading conditions in the presence of cracks, that are small as compared to the characteristic microstructural dimensions. To address this need, the variation in mixed-mode, high-cycle fatigue-crack growth thresholds with crack size is reported for a Ti-6Al-4V turbine blade alloy with a fine-gra...
